As a youth growing up in Puerto Rico, Coach Rich found his passion for the sport of swimming and represented the US territory in international swim meets, as well as becoming a member of the Puerto Rico Water Polo Team. It was during this time he continued to master his sport, competing in Open Water competitions and triathlons. It was in Puerto Rico where Coach Rich began his coaching career, gaining experience building a team of all levels and ages. He came to the mainland with an early opportunity to serve as an Assistant Coach for Age-Group and National level swimmers as part of the New Jersey Hamilton Aquatic Club. Here, many of his swimmers qualified for YMCA Nationals and USA Nationals meets. After relocating to Northern Virginia with his family, Coach Rich went on to Head Coach teams at both the club and high school level, providing him the opportunity to train athletes to reach the highest levels of Local Swim Club Championships and beyond to USA National and International Championships. He is proud to have fostered an Open Water interest in club swimming, and has led a contingent of swimmers to open water events up and down the east coast, including Zone Open Water Qualifiers. Coach Rich continued to broaden his experience to include representing USA Swimming in coaching select swimmers in USA Swim Camps and meets for athletes based on their skill. While serving as Club Herndon Head Coach, Coach Rich took on the added challenge of Assistant Coaching for the high school swim where he adapted to the different dynamics of the sport, and learned vital skills necessary for his development as a well-rounded coach. He is excited to return to New Jersey to be near his family, and at the opportunity to Lead and develop an exciting new future and program with The Riptide Swim Team
