Everyone has something in their life that motivates them. For some it can be their career, for others it is family members, and for others it is their health. For Atlantic Club member Dennis Collinson, the motivation has always come from his family, particularly his grandchildren, along with dedication to a lifestyle change that began in 2008.
A member of the club since 1985, it wasn’t until 2008 that Dennis decided to give his lifestyle an overhaul and change things for the better, giving up alcohol completely and committing to a life filled with exercise and the pursuit of wellness. Since then, he has lost an incredible 70 pounds, has lost significant inches in his waist, and his heart rate has improved tremendously. Asked what keeps him motivated, Dennis says, “ Besides my grandchildren, who have been a big part of it, Joe Leone from The Atlantic Club has played a large role in making me accountable when I don’t show up for class and always encouraging me.” He continues to say that “The atmosphere, staff, and other members of The Atlantic Club make it a great place to come every day.”
Dennis’ ultimate goal is to lose 100 pounds and to run further and faster than he can now. He enjoys participating in The Ride, Basic Training and HEAT classes, when he isn’t using the machines in the fitness room. He encourages everyone to use resources available to them to help them reach their goals. “Have fun and make a commitment to change! There are plenty of people at The Atlantic Club who will help you if you ask.” Dennis is an inspiration to us all, and we wish him continued success on his journey of health and wellness!
