Body in motion = Life in balance

It isn’t lost on most people that in order to have exceptional health, you must eat well. Getting your body moving is also an important part of living a healthy and interesting life. Yes exercise plays an important role in weight loss, but there are so many additional benefits to exercise! Health isn’t just about being fit or without disease, it also should include feeling great physically and mentally. When your body is in motion it creates an energy that doesn’t happen unless you get moving. There is an increase in “good feeling” hormones that naturally boosts your mood. That boost can not only help you to feel great, but it can be the catalyst to help you to see life from a fresh perspective, find the answers you are looking for or catapult you out of a funk! How often do you sit on the couch and come up with a creative idea or a solution to a problem?
On another note, when you exercise, you are taking time for you. In this day and age, not many people take time for themselves. It’s a time to tune into your body and feel what it needs as well as your mind. It is a break from work, appointments, errands and obligations. It’s a break that will leave you feeling refreshed and help you to feel proud and confident - which will help you with everything else in life.
It is an important to find the right type of exercise for your personality and body type. If you enjoy what you are doing, you will look forward to it and will tend to stick with it. It’s a great time of year to get outside and take advantage of all the options available.
Some ideas:
- Sign up for local and destination races to keep it fun and keep up training momentum.
- Golf or Tennis player? Use that torso and upper body differently, but complimentary, by trying additional activities like canoeing or kayaking with family or friends.
- Paddle boarding is a great total body workout as well as a great way to spend time with nature
- Another great activity that is easy, and free, is walking! You can get yourself out the door to meet a friend or volunteer to be a dog walker at a shelter.
- If you prefer to take classes like Zumba, TRX or Yoga, go for it! Set them into your schedule like any other appt.
- Find a buddy that has similar goals and make appts to meet at the gym or hire a trainer for accountability, proper exercises and form
The point is to get out there and enjoy what you are doing and do it often. Nothing but good will come from it!
