K.I.S.S. Approach to Fitness
by Gina Resina ACE | AFAA Certified Personal Trainer | AFAA Group Exercise Instructor | Manasquan Club
“Keep it Short and Simple” is an approach to fitness that is designed to be easy to follow and targets strength, endurance and flexibility training in a simple format which will make the most of your workout time. But “simple” is not always “easy”. Strive to complete and repeat a circuit of exercises over the course of your training session by manipulating time, intensity and type of activity. Training major muscle groups in conjunction with periods of cardio-respiratory exercise will help you to achieve the benefit of a full body training session in a simple format which will keep you moving and motivated.
Making the most of your workout time, your strength training should consist of the five basic functional movements for Activities of Daily Living (ADL): bending and lifting, single leg movements, pushing, pulling and rotational movements. Cardio-respiratory endurance might include brisk walking, running, jumping rope, climbing stairs or plyometric movements. Conclude your training session with stretching to increase your flexibility, and you have a well-balanced program designed to encourage and inspire you to improve posture, movement, flexibility, balance, core function, cardio-respiratory fitness, muscular endurance and muscular strength.
